Title: Upgrading Personnel Manager to a later version

Q: I have received an upgrade to Personnel Manager and want to know what to do so that I don’t lose any data.

A: If you follow the steps listed below all data will be preserved.

  1. Make a back up of your data to floppy disks.
  2. Ensure all users exit Personnel Manager.
  3. Close the diary monitors on all PCs that are connected to the database.
  4. Ensure that all applications that use the Borland Database Engine (BDE) are closed.
  5. Insert the Personnel Manager disc into the CD drive. The SETUP.EXE should automatically start, but if not click the Start button and select Run, then type D:\SETUP.EXE and click OK (where D is the drive letter of the CD).
  6. In most cases SETUP will recognise that this is an upgrade to an existing installation and the upgrade can be performed simply by clicking the ‘Upgrade’ button.
  7. In a few cases the existing installation may not be found and SETUP will then execute the usual full installation process. (This can also be achieved by selecting the ‘Install’ option within the upgrade dialog).
  8. If the full installation process is run (either by default or choice) take care NOT to select the database components when prompted.

NB: PERFORMING THE FULL INSTALLATION PROCESS WITH THE DATABASE OPTION SELECTED WILL CAUSE ANY EXISTING DATA TO BE OVERWRITTEN.
