Title: Could not open the user log file – it may have been corrupted.
Q: When I try to log into Personnel Manager I get the above error message.
A: The cause of this is temporary files on the server drive that need to be removed. A computer crashing while the Personnel Manager database is open generally causes this. See below for details of how to do this. Alternatively if you have a Novell network you could get this error (see FAQ006 – Known issues with Novell Networks)
- First you need to ensure all users have exited Personnel Manager and closed the Diary Monitor on all computers.
- Now you need to clear all temporary files that have been created. These are Pdoxusrs.lck and Paradox.lck. This can be done as follows:
- Click on the Windows start button and select find files or folders.
- In the box ‘named’ type P*.lck and in the box ‘look in’ select My Computer.
- Then click on the ‘Find Now’ button, this will then display all the files named Pdoxusrs.lck and Paradox.lck on your PC. Simply delete all files.
- If you have a message saying ‘Access Denied’ when you try to delete the file, this means the PC you are using or another PC has a lock on the file. Re-start the PC you are using and try again. If you still have a problem deleting a file, ensure all other PC’s that have access to the database are closed down.
- When you are sure all files have been deleted you will need to re-start the PC
- You will then be able to log into Personnel Manager.
