Q: I’m trying to install Personnel Manager onto a workstation and link to databases on a file server. However, when I set the location of the databases and click next I get the above error message.
A: This error message is displayed when the wrong location is set for the database. Follow the steps listed below to resolve this:
- From a workstation that is already connected to the databases, load Personnel Manager, go to the Help dropdown menu (not the icon with the purple book and the yellow question mark) and select ‘About…’
- From within the about screen click on the settings button
- You will the see the system settings displayed.
- Make a note of the path for the Global Database Location, this may look something like ‘H:\PersMan\VBTGlobalData\’*
- Basically all you need to do is to set the location for the databases up a level from the path of the Global Database Location, so the path would be ‘H:\PersMan*.
- Now you know the location of the databases you can go back to the computer you are installing on, enter this path to the databases (H:\PersMan*) using the browser, you will then be able to continue.
*H:\PersMan is just an example of a path to use. You would need to use the location found on the settings screen.
