Title: How to export a Personnel Manager report to Excel

Q: I have created a report in Personnel Manager but I would like to export the information to Microsoft Excel.

A: This can be done as listed below:

  1. Open the report that you want to export
  2. From the file menu select ‘Export’
  3. You will then see the screen opposite
  4. First, you need to select the file type as ‘ASCII Delimited File (*.TXT)’
  5. Then, enter a name and location for the file to be saved. Ensure you note the location of the file, as you will need to locate it for importing into Excel.
  6. You can now close the report in Personnel Manager and open Microsoft Excel.
  7. In Excel from the file menu select Open
  8. Here you need to change the ‘files of type’ to Text Files and locate the file you saved in Personnel Manager. Next, click on Open.
  9. You will now have the Excel text import wizard (Step 1 of 3). Ensure the Delimited box is checked.
  10. Now, you need to specify what delimiters are used, set this the same as shown below.
  11. Finally, you need to format the rows of data that are being imported. For example if you have a date field highlight the column and set the ‘Column data format’ to date. See Step 3 of 3 on page two.
  12. Now all you need to do is click on the ‘Finish’ button to complete the import. This will then open an Excel sheet containing the information from the report.
