Workstation Set-up

The Workstation Set-up process installs Personnel Manager on a user’s computer and connects them to the Personnel Manager database located on the network.

Before installing Personnel Manager on a user’s computer

  1. Map the location of the Personnel Manager database on the network server to a
  2. permanent drive on the user’s computer. For example, map the H drive on a

    user’s computer to the \\SERVER\DATA\VIZUAL directory on the file server.

  3. Ensure that there is read\write\delete access to the Personnel Manager database

directory on the file server.

To install and connect each workstation to Personnel Manager

  1. Go to the computer where the Personnel Manager workstation is to be set up.
  2. Start Windows 95/98 or NT.
  3.  

  4. Place the Personnel Manager CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of the computer
  5. where you want to install Personnel Manager.

    The Installation Wizard appears informing you to exit all programs before continuing with the installation and informs you about the licensing obligations.

  6. Click the Next button to start.
  7. Indicate which Personnel Manager components you want to install.

    For a workstation installation, you typically include only Personnel Manager, and if required, Acrobat Reader.

  8. When the Choose Destination Location dialog appears, click the Browse button

to specify where the Personnel Manager programs are to be installed.

Note: Personnel Manager must be installed to a local drive on the computer.

 

6. When the Locate Database dialog appears, take one of the following actions.

Browse for or type in the location of the Personnel Manager (stored by default in the Program Files\Personnel Manager folder).

For example, if the folder is on a physical drive or a logical drive mapped as drive D, you can browse for that drive letter. Alternatively, you can enter a path such as d:\Program Files\Personnel Manager.

If you receive a message about a missing licence file, you have specified the wrong folder.

7. Click the Next button. Follow the instructions to finish the installation.

 

The installation creates a complete set of Personnel Manager program icons in

the Start menu under the Vizual Business Tools group and a set of desktop shortcuts for starting each module.

To complete the installation, add a new username and password with full privileges for Administrator access and create user accounts and templates for setting access privileges for Personnel Manager users.
